Fife Festival of Music November 2024
Family Funday at Fife Festival of Music
Sunday 17th November, Kirkcaldy High School
Kirkcaldy High School was the place to be on Sunday 17th November for the 2024 Fife Festival of Music Family Funday, the tenth since the start of the event in 2013. Inside the venue, the atmosphere was warm and sunny with the hall, classrooms and surrounding areas filled with music.
During the four-hour event - visited by Fife Council Depute Provost Cllr. Dave Dempsey - live music was provided by the Dysart Colliery Silver Band Ensemble, the Aberdour Flutes and students from Kirkcaldy High School. Two pipers welcomed the early arrivals – Euan Hutt of Kirkcaldy High School and Euan Miller of Madras College.
The day’s visitors and participants took opportunities to sample workshops in Ukulele, Pipe Band drumming, Music Making for littles ones, Samba and Jumbie jam (mini steel pans).
The main live performance feature of the day was a 50-minute performance by Travelling by Tuba from Manchester which engaged, entertained and dazzled the audience with a display of brass and other instruments and some playing of the highest quality. Young members of the audience were encouraged to join in and to try various instruments.
Meanwhile, the Festival's fundraising shop, a quiz, the tea bar, face painting and colouring-in all added to the day's merrymaking - a truly successful Family Funday of Music Making. The quiz winner was Megan Greer who chose a FFoM T-shirt as her prize.
Commenting on the event, Depute Provost Dempsey congratulated the Festival on its enterprise and community responsibility while Kirkcaldy High School Rector Christopher McKay was delighted that the school could host the event.
Pictures show the Funday welcome pipers Euan Hutt and Euan Miller with Fife Council Depute Provost Councillor Dave Dempsey, secondly Stewart and Chris, Travelling by Tuba in action and thirdly Dysart Colliery Silver Band.
