Fife Festival of Music November 2023
Family Funday at Fife Festival of Music
Sunday 19th November, Duloch Primary School, Dunfermline
Duloch Primary School, Dunfermline, was the place to be on Sunday 19th November for the 2023 Fife Festival of Music Family Funday, the ninth since the start of the event in 2013. The weather outside may have been a little variable but inside the venue, the atmosphere was warm and sunny with the hall, classrooms and surrounding areas filled with music.
During the four-hour event - visited by Fife Council Depute Provost Cllr. Dave Dempsey - live music was provided by a brass ensemble of students from Woodmill and Dunfermline High Schools and a string group of students from Duloch PS and Woodmill, including the welcome piper, positioned strategically at the front entrance. The day's visitors and participants, numbering between 200 and 300, took the opportunities to sample workshops in Ukulele, Pipe Band drumming, Music Making for littles ones, Samba and Jumbie jam (mini steel pans).
The main live performance feature of the day was a 50-minute performance by Travelling by Tuba from Manchester which engaged, entertained and dazzled the audience with a display of brass and other instruments and some playing of the highest quality. Young members of the audience were encouraged to join in and to try various instruments.
Meanwhile, the Festival's fundraising shop, a quiz, the tea bar, face painting and colouring-in all added to the day's merrymaking - a truly successful Family Funday of Music Making. The quiz winner was Lucy Whitton of Dunfermline.
Commenting on the event, Depute Provost Dempsey congratulated the Festival on its enterprise and community responsibility while Duloch Primary School Headteacher Laura Spence was delighted that the school could host the event.
