40th Fife Festival of Music 28th January- 7th February 2020
2020 sees the Fife festival of Music celebrating its 40th year and all those involved look forward to another year of supporting and developing music making throughout Fife.
The January / February period of the 40th Fife Festival of Music came to an end on Friday 7th February after ten days of vibrant music making, which was enjoyed by all who took part.
Day 1 of the 40th Festival proved to be rather more dramatic and memorable than expected, when just before the start of the second session the fire alarm sounded in The Adam Smith Theatre and the building was evacuated! A burst pipe which resulted in flooding brought an end to the day's proceedings. Fortunately matters were resolved and the Festival resumed the following day with renewed vigour and eight more days of vibrant music making, which was enjoyed by all who took part.
The culmination of the Festival took place in the Adam Smith Theatre on the Friday evening. Before the winners of the Open Classes took to the stage for the Young Musician 2020 Class, the 40th Anniversary was marked by the cutting of a specially commissioned anniversary cake, which was subsequently enjoyed by all those present. There was then a short recital from the winner of the Young Singers Recital Class, Ben Smart. This class took place the previous evening.
The adjudicators for the final evening were Frances Gillies and Paul Wood, who are photographed below with the winner and the five musicians who took part in the Young Musician class
The winner of Young Musician 2020 (Class 100) and the Glen More Trophy was Samuel Duzinkewycz (Brass Solo) from Glenrothes
